The Minister responsible for the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) scheme, Seema Malhotra MP, has been in Northern Ireland to visit two of our most popular tourist attractions and meet with industry representatives to hear about the impact of the scheme since its roll-out was completed in April.
The Minister visited the Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre and walked the stones of the UNESCO World Heritage Site before travelling to Titanic Belfast for a tour of the attraction, followed by a round table discussion with tourism industry representatives and the Economy Minister, Caoimhe Archibald.
During the discussion, which was chaired by NITA Chief Executive, Joanne Stuart, Minister Malhotra, heard evidence of significant cancellations as a result of the requirement for an ETA and the Economy Minister repeated her call for a time limited exemption to the scheme for tourists travelling from the Republic.
